There are 3 different types of angles when we are talking about firearms. Positive, Neutral, and Negative
From left to right:
Positive, neutral and negative.
A positive angle will grab and hold onto something. They are commonly found on extractors, certain ejectors and sears. Neutral angles can also be found on these parts as well. It's not necessarily a bad thing but the engagement is only as positive as it's least positive angle. So, if you have a positive or neutral angle grabbing onto a negative angle then the system is negative.
In a sear system you don't want the engagement between the parts to be negative. If there is a negative engagement then the gun is unsafe. The gun could slam fire or fire when it's dropped.
If the sear system is positive in an external hammer gun for example, you can actually see the hammer move rearward slightly. This is usually the case in factory guns.
