Not all finishes are created equal. Some will wear quicker or rust quicker. A blued gun looks great especially if it's polished but it needs to be taken care of or it will rust. Even if you handle the gun you need to wipe it off because the oils and salt you have on your hands will eventually rust it.
Parkerizing is more durable. It's basically an acid bath that makes the metal more water resistant and therefore less likely to rust.
Combine the two, parkerizing and bluing and you have a fairly durable finish that is low maintenance.
Cerakote is the best finish that resists rust. I call it the lazy persons finish and am a fan of it. Just for an example, I have a shotgun that I cerakoted 3 years ago and have never wiped off the outside and there's still no rust on it. Cerakote is a ceramic coating that is baked on. It's durable, flexible and wear resistant. It also comes in a wide variety of colors so if you don't want a standard black looking gun you can have it colored pink if you so desire.
